A website isn’t working right and someone tells you:

“Clear your cache.”

But what exactly are you clearing?

What is it?

A cache is a place where your device temporarily stores information to go faster.

For example, your browser may keep images or parts of a site you already visited.

Next time, it doesn’t have to download everything again.

Why clear it sometimes?

Sometimes cached information is too old.

The site changed, but your browser still uses an older version.

The page may look broken or wrong.

Clearing the cache asks your device to fetch a fresh version.

Will I lose my files?

Usually, no.

Your documents and photos are not stored in the browser cache.

Note: depending on the options you pick, clearing the cache may also remove cookies or site data.
